: Through the years I've noticed when watching tv shows and movies, it seems that the shaft height of cowboy boots worn by men are taller than the standard 12 inch shaft. I've always wondered where you can purchase similar cowboy boots with the taller shaft and are they that common.
I image it depends somewhat on where you live. I've come across a surprising number of contemporary photos of men wearing cowboy boots that reach up to their knees, but they all appear to be working cowboys and ranchers in rural western settings. Surely they must have some local sources for buying those boots.
Barring your moving to rural Montana, there may be hope closer to home. You might be more likely to find taller cowboy boots at a western wear and tack shop that caters to bona fide horse people than a boot and western fashion store at the mall. I found my knee-high cowboy boots, specifically Olathe western polo boots, in-stock at a local western tack and clothing store. I even caught them on sale!
There are some boot makers who stock a limited selection of taller western boots (maybe 14-19" tall), even though you may not see them on the shelf at your local boot/western store. Ask your boot seller what he might special order for you, or browse the boot manufacturers' and vendors' websites on-line. The lists here on Hotboots of boot manufacturers and merchants are a great place to start. Unless you have very specific tastes/needs in a pair of tall cowboy boots, you shouldn't have to resort to custom-made boots.
The question I have is, what TV shows and movies have you been watching? Titles...I want titles!
