I think that square toes will gradually evolve to some other style but I'm not sure when. And a lot depends on why you wear boots. I don't think there is any one answer. It's what works for you. I've been wearing cowboy boots for almost 50 years. I've always liked the more pointed toe and in days past, I'd order or buy a boot with a pointed toes (but not the extreme Mexican boots I've seen). The problem for me was how easily the pointed toe could get scuffed and leather damaged.

I bought lots of boots from the old Champion Boot Company, Then Austin and Austin Hall Boots until they went under. I switched to Olathe because of their buckaroo style and partiality for riding (horses). Olathe made a more rounded toe but it worked with the style. It was still easy to slip in and out of a stirrup or iron.

I don't mind the square toe at all and have one pair of simple black mule ear boots with a cowboy square toe, and I love harness boots and Wesco Harness boots. But for me a medium or narrow round toe is the style I chose and I think it's timeless.

A similar debate can be had about heels and tops. That is the beauty of the cowboy boot, it is so versatile.

: What's the trend? More classic cowboy or wider square toe boots? Lately seeing boat shoes and LL Bean duck boots more as rains fall !
